Working with Placed Files
Placing a File then Amending the Source File

The Place command allows you to place all files with 2D data in data formats supported by Arbortext IsoDraw on an Arbortext IsoView illustration.
Link2Source™ technology creates a living link to the source file. This means that amendments made to the source file can be transferred automatically to the placed file.
Placing can be used, for example, when compiling a spare parts catalog, where certain parts or small assembly units are used in several assemblies or areas of a machine. If design alterations mean that parts become redundant, are added, or are changed, only one file needs to be amended – the source file. The respective amendment is then reflected in all the spare parts diagram files into which this file has been placed.
This exercise involves placing a toothed-belt unit (place1.idr) on a geared motor (phantom.idr). The update process is then simulated. The source file containing the toothed-belt unit is then replaced with an amended version (place2.idr).

place2.idr (updated placed file containing the toothed-belt unit)
You can find the files in the Arbortext-IsoDraw-install-path\Tutorial\Tutorial IsoDraw folder. A copy of each of the files place1.idr and place2.idr can be found in the place subfolder.
