artifact
|
The logical representation of an object. It can be a block, port, fiber, highway or group. Artifacts can hold user-defined parameters.
An artifact can be a catalog item or an instance. Artifacts can have one or more shapes representing them on a sheet. (See catalog item and instance.)

autoport
|
A port automatically created at the point of fiber termination anywhere on a block.

block
|
A type of artifact that can contain ports. The ports can accept connections. (See port.)
|
blockshape
|
The 2D graphical representation of a block artifact.
|
cable
|
A fixed group of individually insulated conductors. Cables can be shielded.
|
catalog
|
A library of items used in a design including artifact and shape definitions and templates. (See artifact, shape and template.)
|
catalog item
|
Any item found in a catalog.
|
central catalog
|
A catalog that is independent of any design and can be used for multiple designs. This catalog does not include templates, but can include datatables and membermaps.
|
circuit diagram
|
A schematic diagram of components represented either by block graphics or group graphics and connected by signal networks.
|
crossover
|
The graphical representation of crossing fibers.
|
cross-referenced shapes
|
Visual aids to help track the relative locations of the members of a variable unconstrained group throughout a design.
|
CSV file
|
Short for Comma-Separated Value file. Used to specify tables of information. The CSV file contains numbers or strings (lines of text). Data elements (or fields) are separated by a comma.

dataset
|
A row in the datatable that defines a set of values for the datatable parameters. Datasets exist in and can be selected from datatables. (See datatables)

datatable
|
Tables of parameters, usually derived from real-world manufactured parts, that you can apply to design objects. Datatables are loaded from Comma Separated Value (CSV) files.

design
|
A diagram project consisting of a series of design sheets, folders, and a catalog.
|
design properties file
|
Design properties files contain design settings, parameters, internal catalog items, internal datatables, types definitions, and so on.
|
design sheet
|
The Creo Schematics equivalent of a piece of paper. Shapes are created on sheets, and each design consists of one or more sheets that are organized (linked) into folders. Shapes are instanced into design sheets. A sheet can appear in several folders.

design sheets file
|
Design sheets files contain design sheets and all items on the sheets with their design properties.
|
endpoint
|
Termination point on a line (for navigational and directional orientation).
|
fiber
|
A component, such as a wire, a signal network, or a pipeline, that can be routed. Fibers have a diagram type at the artifact level.
A fiber can exist on its own, without being connected.
|
fiber end geometry
|
Defines the graphical representation used when multiple fibers connect to a single port.
|
fiber stubs
|
Fibers that do not draw the connection line between the connected ports, only the portshapes.
|
fibershape
|
The 2D graphical representation of a fiber artifact.
|
groups
|
An association of multiple objects that behaves as a single object, for example, contacts or coils in a relay. Groups can contain blocks, fibers, other groups, and/or ports.

groupshape
|
The 2D graphical representation of a group artifact.
|
healing
|
The automatic closing of a gap in a fiber after the deletion of a shape.
|
highway
|
A line that represents a path of fibers to prevent clutter in a diagram. When a highway is moved, the connected fibers also move.
|
highwayshape
|
The 2D graphical representation of a highway artifact.
|
inlining
|
The automatic segmentation of a fiber or cable by insertion of a block or a group shape into the fiber or cable.
|
instance
|
A copy of a catalog item placed on a design sheet that retains a link to the catalog item from which it was created. Linking enables instances to be updated from the original catalog item.
Both artifacts and shapes can have instances and catalog items. Individual artifacts and shapes are either an instance or a catalog item. (See catalog item.)
|
internal catalog
|
The catalog for a specific design. This catalog contains items that are specific to the design and items from the Central Catalog that have been used in the design.
|
location set
|
A set that defines the display of columns and rows on design sheets. They group sheets together for cross-referencing and for defining sheet and column sequences.
|
mapkey
|
A shortcut tool used to map a sequence of keys to a tool or command. Mapkeys are generally used to activate tools in the application's main window.
|
membermap
|
A file similar to a datatable that set names and datasets for all members of an object. It defines parameters for each element in the object.
A membermap must specify a name for every member in the group. If the member is a group, member names must be specified for each member of the group. The member mappings can also specify a dataset for each member.
|
multilevel cable
|
A cable that contains many cables.
|
network shape
|
The portshape used when branching a fiber into an existing signal network.
|
P&ID
|
Process and Instrumentation Diagram. This is a commonly used type of Creo Parametric Piping diagram.
|
packed design
|
A design saved and compressed as an *.rsd file for sharing and archiving.
|
port
|
A terminal or pin that can be connected to zero or more ports. A port always has a parent or an owner. The parent can be a block, a group, or a fiber.
|
portshape
|
The 2D graphical representation of a port artifact.
|
probe
|
A tool that enables the user to pinpoint a location on a sheet to which a tool or a shape must be snapped. There are several types of probes.

|
scenery
|
Additional 2D graphics (geometry) such as a sheet border. These graphics are not a part of the shape.
|
shape
|
A 2D graphical representation of an artifact on a sheet.
A shape can be a catalog item or an instance.
|
sheet
|
A virtual piece of paper used to create and show designs or shapes (for artifacts).
|
shield
|
An extra core with a different graphical representation and type than the other cores in a cable. A cable can never have more than one shield.
|
signal network
|
A fiber network with a diagram type of circuit that represents the connections between block and group ports. It is independent of any fibers in other diagram types, such as wiring or block.
|
spare core
|
When a dataset is applied to a cable, any core specified by the dataset that does not exist in the cable, is created as a spare core.
|
spool
|
Wire spools are collections of parameters like color, gauge, etc. that you reference when you create individual wires and cables.
Pipe spools are un-scaled pipe pieces that include all the pipes and fittings, which can be manufactured in a shop yard.
|
start design template
|
A design with all the company standards stored as a *.rsdt file.
|
start point
|
Beginning point on a line (for navigational and directional orientation).
|
template
|
Basic sheet format, paper size, associated graphics, and so on.
|
temporary submission directory
|
A temporary directory of catalog items to be integrated in the Central Catalog.
|
terminator table
|
Defines the criteria that must be met for a terminator value to be matched to a particular pin.
|
wire
|
An instance of a fiber in a wiring diagram.
