About Importing DXF and DWG Drawing Files
You can import 2D drawing data and tables from AutoCAD using DXF or DWG file formats from versions 2007 and earlier. AutoCAD 2008 and 2009 use the same DXF and DWG file formats as AutoCAD 2007. DXF and DWG files can be imported into a open design or used as a template to create a new design.
When the AutoCAD drawing file contains multiple sheets, you can choose the sheets to import or import all sheets into the design. Use the Import Environment for DXF or the Import Environment for DWG dialog box to select the sheets to import and change the default layer and line font mapping.
When you use the imported sheets as a template to create a new design, the selected sheets are imported as separate design sheets. The sheets have variable size and no sheet format graphics.
