About Comparing Catalog Items
When you merge a design with the Central Catalog, an item in the internal catalog may have the same name as an item in the Central Catalog. You can compare the two items and choose to rename the item in the internal catalog or replace it with the item from the Central Catalog. When the internal catalog item is replaced, all instances of the item in the design must be updated. An artifact or shape in the internal catalog can be replaced when:
It has instances; otherwise it is deleted.
The item is not associated with a Central Catalog item.
The item has zero or one shape.
The Central Catalog item can replace the internal catalog item when:
The artifact has a member at every index that the internal catalog item does.
It has only one shape.
When an internal catalog item is replaced, the catalog references of all instances are changed to reference the Central Catalog item. After the references are changed, the internal catalog item is deleted. All instances must be updated if the graphics are different using one of the following methods:
To update all instances of the shape, select it in the Catalog Explorer and click .
To update the shape of the selected instance in the design, click Diagramming > Replace Shape.
If the parameters of the instances are different, you must manually update them.
