To Create Surface Regions—Topology Optimization
1. Click Home > Surface Region. The surface region tab opens.
2. To define the outline that bounds the surface region, select a sketch or chain as the splitting option:
Split by sketch—Click and select an external sketch to define the boundaries of the surface region.
Alternately select Split by sketch on the References tab. Use the sketch collector to select an existing sketch to define the boundaries of the surface region.
To define a new sketch click Define and use the sketch tool to sketch the boundaries of the surface region.
Split by chain—Click and select a chain of curves or edges as a boundary for the surface region.
Alternately select Split by chain on the References tab. Select the chain in the model to be used as a boundary.
To define a new chain, click Details. The Chain dialog box opens.

* When you use Split by chain, the curve or chain must lie on the parent surface that is split. If the curve is at some offset distance, the surface region is not created..
3. Click the Surfaces collector and select the parent surface to be split.
4. Click .
