To Create a Weld Feature Weld
You can add groove or fillet type surface welds and all solid welds that are created in the Creo Parametric Welding application to your simulation model. The welds are used to establish connectivity in your solid or midsurface compressed models.
1. Click Refine Model > Weld. The Weld Definition dialog box opens.
2. Specify a name or accept the default name. Click the color swatch adjacent to Name if you want to change the default color of the icon and text displayed for the weld.
3. Select Weld Feature from the Type option menu.
4. Select a weld from the model tree or from the model geometry or by using the search tool. The weld feature name is displayed in the References collector.
5. Ensure that Override Weld Feature Settings is not selected and click OK to create the weld using the original weld feature properties.
6. Alternatively, select Override Weld Feature Settings if you want to change the properties of the weld feature.
Specify the Thickness of the weld. Select units from the adjacent drop-down list or accept the default units. This value is the thickness of the shell that the weld is compressed to during meshing. In the case of solid welds the weld is meshed with solid elements and hence the thickness value does not need to be specified.
* If using the Weld feature properties, (Override Weld Feature Settings check box not selected) the thickness for groove welds is the penetration parameter value. For fillet welds (surface-surface), it is the average of the leg lengths. These values cannot be edited and are associative back to the weld feature settings.
Select the Part Material as the weld material or click More to select a material from the Materials library. You must assign a material to a weld feature, for the weld object to participate in meshing.
* For edge-surface and edge-edge fillet welds, Override Weld Feature Settings is always selected and cannot be cleared.
7. Click OK.
