About Editing or Replacing the References of Features
Use the Edit References and Replace References commands to edit references or replace the references of a feature with new references. This is also called to reroute a feature from one set of reference to another. A reference is a feature or geometry that is used (referenced) by other features. The features that use the reference are child features of that reference. References are owned by owner features. Editing the reference of a feature removes the dependency between the reference and its child features.
You can edit the references of a feature from the Model Tree, graphics window, Reference Viewer, or Children Handling dialog box.
The system checks if the new reference and the old reference are compatible when you edit a reference. If the references are not compatible, the system issues a warning message and continues processing.
You can edit the references of multiple features in one operation.
You can only reroute external references in the environment (the level in an assembly) in which they were created.
You cannot edit the references of the following features:
Rounds that have user-defined transitions
Grouped patterned features
Read-only features
