Example: Including Mass Properties in the Family Table
Summary: This example shows you how to use the analysis feature in conjunction with Family tables.
Problem: You want to select an instance from the Family table by its mass.
Solution: You can use the analysis feature to create a desired measurement (in this example - mass properties) and include it in the Family table.
The following steps outline this example:
1. Open a part file and select the generic part that you want to retrieve.
2. Click Analysis and then click the arrow next to Mass Properties. Click Mass Properties. The Mass Properties dialog box opens.
3. Click the Analysis tab if it is not selected by default and select the type of analysis.
4. Click Saved to display and dynamically update the analysis while modeling.
5. Enter a name for the analysis, for example, bolt_mass.
6. Click the Definition tab to customize or edit your analysis.
7. Under Coordinate System, the selected coordinate system is displayed in the collector. Click Use default to select the default coordinate system.
8. Under Density, specify the material density. The density value is saved with the model. The default value is 1.
9. Click to compute the analysis. A coordinate system is displayed at the center of gravity in the Creo Parametric graphics window. The result of the analysis is displayed in the Results box and the report is displayed in an information window.
10. Click to complete the analysis.
11. Create a new parameter of the type Feature in the Family table.
12. Select the analysis feature on the Model Tree and select the parameter, Mass.
13. To update the Family table, click Tools > Verify. Creo Parametric regenerates the table and includes the mass parameter in the Family table. Close the Family tree window.
14. Open the Family table. Note that the table contains a new column, mass (see the next figure). You can now select an instance by its mass.
