About Designated Area References for Annotations
You can reference a designated area when creating standalone annotations and annotations in Annotation Elements. A designated area is a region that you can create on multiple surfaces to indicate that special consideration is needed for the area. You can attach annotations to the area inside the region or to the region boundary.
Note the following points about designated areas.
One annotation can reference multiple designated areas.
Multiple annotations can reference one designated area. You can attach a single, different surface finish annotation to the designated area even if a surface finish annotation is already applied to the parent surface.
You can export annotations attached to designated areas to downstream applications such as Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to indicate special areas that need to be examined closely or differently.
