About Filters and Selection
Creo Parametric provides various filters to help you select items. These filters are located in the filter option list on the Status Bar. Each filter narrows the item types that you can select enabling you to easily locate the item.
Selection filters are of the following types:
Compound Selection Filter — Enables the selection of more than a single type of object. For example, geometry selection filter is a pre-defined compound selection filter which includes the selection filters for edges, surfaced, datums, curves, quilts, and annotations.
Individual Selection Filter — Enables the selection of only a single type of object.
Assembly mode: Vertices, parts, and features.
Part mode: Vertices and features.
You can press the Alt and mouse button to exclude the selected filter. For example, if you select Geometry as a selection filter in a part, and press the Alt and mouse button, you can select vertices or features without changing the filter. In an assembly, you can use the following selection methods when you use Geometry as a selection filter:
In a top assembly, you can simultaneously use the Alt and mouse button and Pick From List to select a subassembly. Use the Alt and mouse button to select a part and top-assembly level feature.
If you activate a subassembly in the assembly mode, you can use the Alt and mouse button to select part at any level and features of the active sub-assembly.
If you activate a part in the assembly mode, you can use Alt and mouse button to select part at any level and feature of the activated part.
When you select a geometric entity, in Part mode, the commands of the extended context that are displayed are relevant to the owner feature of the selected geometry in addition to the selected geometry. In assembly mode, the commands of the extended context that are displayed are relevant to the part owner of the selected geometry in addition to the selected geometry. For example, in Assembly mode, if you select an edge, the extended commands are displayed related to the part owner in addition to the selected edge. However, if you activate a part mode in the assembly, and if you select the same edge, the extended commands are displayed related to the feature owner in addition to the selected edge.
All filters are context-sensitive, only those filters that are valid for the geometrical context or those that are required by the feature tool are available. The list of filters available in the Filter box are determined by the mode and tab that are active. Additionally, Creo Parametric automatically selects the correct filter according to the context. Select filters from the Filter box to explicitly change filters.
My Filter
You can define one or more selection filters for each mode. You can add more than one filter to My Filter. The selection filter area displays My Filter at the top of the selection filter list.
Geometry-Based Selection and Mini Toolbar
You can use the selection filter to prehighlight surfaces and edges. Click to select the geometry and to open a mini toolbar and access the frequently-used commands based on your selection.
When you select geometry in the graphics window, the corresponding feature or part is automatically highlighted on the Model Tree, expanding the Model Tree node if necessary. When you change the selection, nodes that were automatically expanded are collapsed.
The mini toolbar is also available when you click items on the Model Tree. The option Zoom to Selected is available on the mini toolbar. This command zooms the graphics window and places the selected feature at the center of window.
Selecting a geometry in a part provides access to commands on the mini toolbar. For a selected surface, the mini toolbar can include commands such as Plane, Axis, Sketch, and Hole, among others.
In addition, there are also commands related to context beyond your actual selection. This is referred as extended context. Typically, the extended context of the selected geometry is the owning component in an assembly, and the owning feature in a part.
When you place the pointer on a mini toolbar command, the corresponding context is prehighlighted. For example, if you select a surface belonging to an extrude feature and place the pointer on an Edit command, the extrude feature is prehighlighted.
The Select from Parents command is available on the mini toolbar. This command gives you quick access of parent objects from the selected geometry.
You can also use the ALT key to temporarily select geometry that is outside the scope of the current selection filter. For example, use Alt to select features or components
