To Define Object-Specific Reference Settings
1. Use any of the following methods to control the reference scope and handling for a model:
Right-click on the model in the Model Tree and click References > Reference Control.
On the Model tab, click Operations > References > Reference Control.
Click File > Prepare > Model Properties and click change on the Reference Control line.
Each of these methods opens the Reference Creation Control dialog box.
2. To change the type of item for the settings, click the arrow next to the Change settings for box. Select one of the following options:
Model—Sets these reference settings for all occurrences of the selected models including those not in session.
Component—Sets reference settings only for this occurrence of the selected models.
3. To select additional models or components, click the box and select models or components in the Model Tree or Graphics window.
4. To remove one or more models or components, right-click in the box and select Remove, or Remove All.
5. To display reference information in an INFORMATION WINDOW, click Information.
6. To set referencing external components, select an option from the External components permitted for reference creation list
All components—Allows referencing any model in the top-level assembly.
Inside Subassembly—Allows referencing only components and children in the model’s parent assembly.
Skeleton and Layout models—Allows referencing any component in the model’s parent assembly and skeletons and layout models higher up on the model’s assembly branch.
None—Allows referencing only inside the current model and its children. Click the Allow exceptions with confirmation check box to confirm referencing external models as an exception.
7. To backup placement references, select an option from the Placement references to backup list.
All references—Backup all placement references.
References to other models—Backup placement references to other components.
References to non-permitted components—Backup placement references created despite restrictions set by the External components permitted for reference creation setting. (When you click the Allow exceptions with confirmation check box.)
None—Do not backup placement references.
8. To backup feature references, select an option from the Feature references to backup list.
References to other models—Backup feature references to other components.
References to non-permitted components—Backup feature reference created despite a restriction. (When you click the Allow exceptions with confirmation check box.)
None—Do not backup feature references.
9. To determine which geometry is allowed for referencing, select an option from the Geometry available for reference selection by other models list.
All geometry—Allow external references to any geometry.
Published Geometry—Allow external references to only published geometry.
10. To set allowed references for constraints when placing the model, select an option from the Allowed references when placing this model list.
All references—When assembling the model, allow all geometry to be used as component constraints.
Interfaces only—Allow only component interfaces to be used for component constraining placement.
