Working with Annotation References
The annotation markup can reference a part or part features, such as bodies, faces, edges, model annotations and construction geometries.
You can view the references in the References tab of the Note Properties or Leader Line Properties dialog box. To open the properties dialog box, double-click the note or the leader line, or click the Annotations tab and Edit Properties.
The selection of the markup applies to the secondary highlight on the associated references.
Notes with a Leader Line or Leader Line Markup
Notes with a leader line or leader line markup allows referencing a part and a part feature. A note with a leader line displays references from all leader lines associated with it.
To add a note with leader line or leader line markup to parts or part features, follows these steps:
1. From the graphics area or the structure tree, select one or more parts or part features, then under Markup, click Leader Line or Note with Leader. Press and hold CTRL to select multiple objects.
2. A leader line is created for each of the parts or features you selected. Place them where you want to add the note.
Alternatively, you can first add the markup and then select the part:
1. Under the Markup tab, click Leader Line or Note with Leader.
2. Select the part from the graphics area and drag the leader line to place the note.
3. To select a part feature, apply a selection filter from the status part to the part feature, and then select a feature and drag the leader line to a note. For more information about the selection filter, see About the Selection Filter.
To update references for notes with a leader line or leader line markup, follow these steps:

2. Double click the leader line or the note. The Note Properties or Leader Line Properties dialog box opens.
3. Click the Reference tab. A list of referenced parts or part features appear.

5. In the graphics area or the structure tree, select another part or part feature, using the selection drill-down or selection filter. The name of the reference change in the properties dialog box.
6. Click OK.
*
You can add another reference to the note by clicking Markup > Leader Line, and then drag the leader line from the note to the reference.
To select the associated reference of the note or the leader line, right-click the note or the leader line and click Select Associated References. The associated references are selected.
Shape Markup
Consider this information about the shape markup:
Shapes can only reference parts.
To add a reference to parts, make sure the center of the shape is at the respective part.
To view a shape reference, open the markup properties dialog box, and then click the References tab.
To modify the reference of the shape, drag the shape or the center of the shape to another part.
*
You cannot update the reference of the shape from the markup properties dialog box.
Polygon Markup
Consider this information about the polygon markup:
Polygons can only reference parts.
Each end point of a polygon can reference a part; therefore, while creating a polygon, draw an end point on the shape.
To view the polygon references, open the Surface Polygon Properties dialog box, and then click the References tab.
To modify the references of the polygon, drag a polygon segment end point to another part.
*
You cannot update the reference of the polygon from the markup properties dialog box.
When a leader line or a note with a leader line references a polygon, it inherits the references from the polygon. You cannot update these references; they appear grayed out as inherited references under the References tab in the markup properties dialog box.
