About View State Compare
View State compare is a Model Based Definition comparison tool which allows you to compare view states, their associated model annotation between two models, and report the differences.
To Compare the View States of the Two Models
1. To compare the view states of two models, both models should be added as viewables. Open the two models you want to compare:
a. Click File > Open and select the first file, then click Open. The first file is added to your viewables.
b. Click File > Add Viewable to Session and select the second file, then click Open. The second file is added to your viewables.
To open viewables from Windchill, see To Add a Viewable to the Session.
2. Click Tools > View State Compare. The View State Compare Settings dialog box opens.
3. Select First Item from the drop-down list, and then select Second Item from the drop-down list. When there are only two viewables, they are auto-populated.
4. Click if you want to switch between the two items.
5. Under the View State tab, you can control which elements you want to include in your comparison. They are all selected by default:
Orientation—Controls the comparison of the orientation that is associated with a view state including pan and zoom.
Cross Section—Controls the comparison of the cross section that is associated with the view state.
Model Annotations—Controls the comparison of the model annotations that are associated with the view states. This option provides better control on the comparison of the component states including appearances, visibility, alternate representations, and explode states.
Components—Controls the comparison of the component states that are overridden in the view state. This option provides better control on the comparison of the content of the component that overrides appearance, visibility, alternate representation, explode and others.
6. Under the Tolerance tab, you can define the tolerances that are used to compare view state content between the two models:
Position—in distance units (mm)
Rotation—in degree units (º)
Appearance—in percentage (%). The percentage difference in each RGB color value.
7. Click OK to continue and perform the comparison. The comparison is run, and the detailed result appears in the Compare tab in the upper data pane.
Viewing the Results in the Compare Tab
The detailed results appear in the Compare tab in the upper data pane. Each row contains the name of the component in the first item, the result of the comparison under Status, and the name of the matching component in the second item.
The Compare tab lists all view states and its associated model annotations and component contributing in tabular form. Each row contains the name of the first item, the results of the comparison under Status, and the name of the matching second item.
The statuses appear as follows:
Identical— appears in light gray for identical items.
Modified—appears in orange for modified entities.
Changed—appears in black for identical entities with modified child entities.
When you expand an annotation or a component, the following statuses appear:
New—appears in green for items that are newly created in the second item that is compared.
Shown—appears in green for items that are still present in both compared items but are hidden in the first item and shown in the second item.
Hidden—appears in red for items that are still present in both compared items but are shown in the first item and hidden in the second item.
Deleted—appears in red for items that are removed in the second item that is compared.
Select a pair in the Compare tab to see the detailed comparison of the parameters for components in the lower data panel and the graphics area.
Navigating the Compare Results
You can navigate the compare results by selecting a pair in the Compare tab, or you can use the following buttons in the View State Compare tab:
Previous View State Previous View State
Previous Item Previous Item
Next Item Next Item
Next View State Next View State
When you select a pair of view states, they are activated in both views. Differences are displayed, as well as a list of differences in properties that are associated with the respective view state.
When you select an annotation or a component that is listed in the Compare tab, the view zooms in to the center in both the views. The differences in properties and the attributes that are associated with the annotation or the component are listed as well.
Filtering the Results
In the View State Compare tab, you can filter the results by status, and you can filter the model annotations by type.
Click Status to select or clear the statuses you want to see or hide.
*
The status filter affects only the model annotations and the components that are associated with the view state. It does not filter out view states.
You can filter the model annotation differences by the type of the annotations. The annotation type filters are:
