Using inventor2pv_config
Use the inventor2pv_config tool to configure the Creo View Adapter for Inventor. Set your X display, and then follow these steps to configure the adapter.
1. Navigate to the <installation_directory>\bin directory in which you installed the Creo View Adapter for Inventor. Double-click on inventor2pv_config.exe. The Autodesk Inventor Adapter Configuration dialog box opens.
2. If you are performing a new installation, leave Existing Configuration > Setup Directory empty. To update an existing configuration of the Creo View Adapter for Inventor to the latest version, in the Existing Configuration > Setup Directory select the setup directory of the previous configuration. The inventor2pv_config automatically fills in all the other required fields. Click Setup to update to the latest version.
*
To preserve the existing version and create a new configuration, change the Setup Directory location in the Parameter group box, as described next. This allows you to test a configuration before removing the previous working configuration.
3. Configure your group settings in the Parameters group box:
a. Specify your Creo View client and/or Visualization server version number in the Client/Server Version list. Setting the version incorrectly can cause problems with your Creo View client and/or Visualization server.
b. Follow these steps to specify a Setup Directory:
a. Click in the Setup Directory field. The Select a Setup Directory dialog box opens.
b. Browse to a <setup_directory> location, or type the path in the Directory field, and then click OK. The default value is <creo_view_adapters folder>\inventor_setup. You are returned to the Creo View Modeling Adapter Configuration dialog box to make further configuration selections.
*
Using different setup directories allows you to have multiple adapter configurations available to address different visualization requirements. inventor2pv_config configures the adapter to run from the selected <setup_directory>.
c. Select Start in Apprentice Server Mode if you wish to run Apprentice Server mode (See Prerequisites for the Creo View Adapter for Inventor for information on the differences between Inventor and Inventor Apprentice).
4. Components group settings:
The Components group settings of the Autodesk Inventor Adapter Configuration dialog box determine what publishing components your system needs to configure and how your system locates the Visualization server host and port. The Components group box includes these fields:
a. Create inventorpublish
Enable this setting to publish files interactively from the Inventor session.
b. Create inventorbatch
Enable this setting to run Inventor in batch mode from the command line to convert batch of files to Creo View viewables.
c. Create inventorworker
Creates a startup script that is used by the Windchill Visualization Service to start the Adapter in worker mode to publish Creo View viewables as part of the Windchill publishing process. To do this, the Adapter needs the following details about the Windchill server.
a. Server Host
Enter the host name of the Windchill server.
b. Server Port
Enter the port to be used to communicate with the Worker Agent on the Windchill server. The default port number is 5600.
c. Worker Alias
Optionally, enter the name of the worker alias. Worker Alias is not available if you select the Enable WWGM file synchronization support check box.
A name for the worker alias is not required to configure the worker.
Do not include spaces in the name for the worker alias.
d. Test Server
After you specify the server host, port, and alias name in the case of an alias worker, click Test Server to perform the following actions:
Validate the machine name, port number, worker availability, and alias name.
Verify that the test server can connect to the Worker Agent at that location.
A Server Configuration Test window displays the following results:
Worker Type
Server
Port
Alias
Test Connection to Server—Opens the Server Configuration Test dialog box. If the test result shows Succeeded or Failed, and the resulting message commences with Set keepalive ok, then click Ok to continue the setup.
5. If you have installed the Windchill Workgroup Manager, use the group settings in the Autodesk Inventor Adapter Configuration dialog box for support for file synchronization in the Windchill Workgroup Manager. Select the Enable WWGM file synchronization support check box to highlight the Install Directory and File Sync DLL fields.
*
It is recommended that Windchill Workgroup Manager is installed so the you can perform this step. However, if this is your initial setup then configure file synchronization at a later stage.
a. Install Directory
Set this field to your Workgroup Manager client installation directory. Your installation point may be different; use the folder icon to the right of the Install Directory field to locate the correct path for your installation, for example C:\PTC\wgm.
b. File Sync DLL
The file synchronization DLL file is installed during the Workgroup Manager installation process. This field is preset to the default file synchronization DLL for Inventor. You can accept the default, or use the folder icon to the right of the File Sync DLL field to locate the required aiadapter_loader.dll file.
*
When running the config tool on a 64-bit Windows platform, this field will be set to the 64-bit Windows DLL. If you are using a 32-bit version of Inventor, this field must be changed to the 32-bit version in the i486nt/obj subdirectory in the Workgroup Manager.
If you enter an incorrect path in the File Sync DLL field, the system displays an error and the Setup button will not be enabled.
6. Click Setup to generate the configuration. The Setup Complete dialog box appears.
7. Click OK to continue.
8. You can click Recipe Editor to edit this configuration’s recipe file. See Introduction to Recipe Editing for Converting CAD Data for further information.
*
Changes to the recipe file should only be performed by advanced users.
9. Click Exit. The Exit inventor2pv_config dialog box opens.
10. Click Yes to exit.
