Overview of the Creo View Adapter for PDF
The Creo View Adapter for PDF is a Windows-based product for converting Microsoft Office documents to PDF viewables for Creo View. By default, this uses Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) to convert documents to the PDF format. Set the Use Office for PDF recipe option to Enable Office Publishing to use the adapter’s Microsoft Office installation to create the PDF instead of AEM. You can select this option on the Advanced > Miscellaneous tab of the Adapter for PDF recipe editor (see Miscellaneous Advanced Settings for PDF Conversion.)
The conversion process is generally referred to as publishing. The properties of the published PDF are synchronized with the document’s properties in Windchill. The Creo View Adapter for PDF must first be configured using the doc2pv_config tool.
Publishing is accomplished in one of two ways:
Convert the documents in a command shell using a method called command line publishing. This method is described in docbatch Command Line Publishing.
Run the adapter in the background to convert documents as needed, without direct user intervention. This is called server controlled publishing. This method is described in docworker Server Controlled Publishing.
The interactive publishing method is not available for the Creo View Adapter for PDF.
In publishing, recipe configuration provides the administrator with complete control of the conversion process. See Introduction to Recipe Editing for Converting CAD Data for an overview of the recipe concept.
