Overview
This topic provides an introduction to the Watermark Editor, explains what watermarks are, and describes the basic concepts and workflow involved in creating and deploying them.
Introduction to Watermarks
Watermarks are background elements applied to media, such as documents, drawings, or models to display helpful or critical information about the content. They appear as a transparent underlay when a file is viewed or printed and can be used to communicate information such as status, ownership, or other metadata.
Watermarks can be based on:
• User-defined text or images
• System attributes, such as time and date
• Data attributes provided by external systems. For example, release or lifecycle information.
Depending on the content type, watermarks may be displayed on screen, printed, or both.
Supported Content Types
Watermarks can be applied to different types of content. Support varies depending on whether the content is viewed or printed, but generally includes:
• Drawings—HPGL, DWG, DXF, PLT, CGM
• 3D models—OL, PVZ, PVZ
• Images—GIF, JPG, TIFF, BMP
• Text-based documents—TXT, DOC, XLS, PPT, PDF
• Markup—Creo View Markup files
Watermark sets can be defined for one or more of these media types individually. Alternatively, a single watermark set may be applied to all media types.
Watermark Definition Files
Watermark definitions are stored in configuration files. A single watermark definition can include different watermark settings for different media types, allowing one file to control how watermarks appear across multiple kinds of content.
Within a watermark definition, watermark content is built from page primitives, which define what appears on the page. Page primitives include:
• Labels, such as text and variable tokens that substitute attribute values
• Images, which are bitmap-based graphical elements
The Watermark Editor
The Watermark Editor is used to create and manage watermark definitions. It provides a structured way to select available attributes, define watermark content, and control how and where watermarks appear on supported content.
Using the Watermark Editor, you can:
• Create watermarks for viewing and printing
• Define watermark layout, position, and size
• Preview watermark appearance
• Save and deploy watermark definitions
