About Pens
Pens are a defined as a collection of attributes that are applied to lines in 2D and 3D illustrations. Pen attributes include line weight, color, style, and halo.
Use pens to draw geometry lines, explode lines, leader lines, and page borders in 2D figures.
The Pens palette is located in the upper data panel and contains a set of predefined pens. Use the options in the Showing > Illustration’s General-Pens page to add, edit or delete pens from the Pens palette, or open the option from Manage Pens.
The active pen (the one that is used for drawing) is indicated with a pen icon. The pen or pens used on the current selection are indicated in the Pens palette with a check. Details and a preview of the active pen are displayed in the bottom section of the Pens palette.
To Add, Edit or Delete Pens in the Pens Palette
1. Click File > Options. The Creo Illustrate Options dialog box opens.
2. Next to Showing, select Illustration, and then on the left under General, select Pens. The General-Pens page opens.
3. To add a pen, perform these steps:
a. Click Add. The Add Pen dialog box opens.
b. Type a pen name, and then define the pen attributes.
c. Click OK. The new pen is added to the list.
4. To edit a pen, perform these steps:
a. Select a pen from the list and then click Edit. The Edit Pen dialog box opens.
b. Type a pen name, and then define the attributes.
c. Click OK. The pen is updated.
5. To delete a pen, select the pen from the list and click Delete.

The following pens are defined for illustrations and cannot be renamed or deleted from the Pens palette:
Thick
Thin
Phantom thick
Phantom thin
Explode line
6. Click Apply to apply the pen options and keep the dialog box open, or click OK to apply the pen options and close the dialog box.
To Select a Pen for a New Line
1. Click Line, Polyline or Bézier Curve. The tool is activated.
2. Select a pen from the list in the Pens palette.
The active pen is indicated by a pen icon.

Alternatively, you can use one of the shortcut keys to enable a particular pen. For example, press CTRL+1 to enable a Thick pen or CTRL+2 for a Thin pen.
To Select a Pen for an Existing Line
1. Select a line, polyline, ellipse, rectangle, or Bezier Curve in the figure.
2. Select a pen from the list in the Pens palette.
All pens used on the selected lines are indicated with a check.
