Scaling 2D Figures
All elements in a 2D figure can be scaled proportionally or non-proportionally. By default, scaling is from the corner of the bounding box, but can be from the center or from a user-defined point. During scaling, a preview is displayed.
For precise measurements and scale points, use the Advanced Scale tool.
To Scale a 2D Figure
1. Click Scale. The scale tool is enabled.
2. Select elements to scale. A bounding box with control handles is displayed around the selected elements.
3. Scale from the corner of the bounding box, the center of the bounding box, or from a user-defined point.
To scale from the corner—select the corner.
To scale from the center—press ALT then click the figure.
To scale from a user-defined point—press SHIFT then click the figure.
4. You can scale elements proportionally, or non-proportionally.
Proportionally—select a control handle to drag the bounding box.
Non-proportionally—press CTRL and select a control handle to drag the bounding box.
Scale values appear at the bottom right corner of the bounding box. For proportional scaling, a single value is displayed. For non-proportional scaling, both height and width values are displayed.
5. Optionally, use the Advanced Scale tool for precise measurements and scale points. Click Scale > Advanced Scale. The dialog box opens.
Select the Uniform scale check box for proportional scaling, or clear the check box for non-proportional scaling.
Enter Horizontal and Vertical percentages or scale size.
In the Scale from list, select:
Center—to scale from the center of the bounding box.
Corner—to scale from the corner of the bounding box.
User-defined point—to scale from a user-defined point in the figure. Press SHIFT and click on the figure to define the point.
6. Click OK to apply the scale and close the Scale dialog box.
Associative Scale
To scale and position figure elements while maintaining full associativity to the parent 3D figure, use the Associative Scale tool:
1. Click Scale > Associative Scale. A bounding box with control handles is displayed around the figure.
2. Perform either or both of the following:
Resize the figure elements by dragging any corner of the box.
Reposition the figure elements by dragging anywhere within the box.
Full associativity to the parent figure means that in an update case, new elements which have been added to the parent figure are included when the Associative Scale is reapplied. This is not the case for Scale or Advanced Scale, where only the elements that were selected in the original scale will be included when the scale is reapplied following an update.
