To Set Section Properties
You can set section properties for all section planes and for each section plane individually.
To set general section properties
1. On the Sectioning tab, click the arrow in the Setup group. The Section Properties dialog box opens on the General tab.
2. Under Settings, set section type and display properties:
Planar (single section plane) or Quarter cut (two section planes)
Use single color for section lines and the section line color
Cap section
Use single color for section cap and the section cap color
Show boundaries
3. Under Intersection, set properties that specify which parts are cut when they intersect a section plane:
Select the Intersect with all check box if you want to cut all parts that intersect a section plane. Clear this check box if you want to:
Only cut parts on the Intersection list. If the list is empty, no parts are cut.
Remove parts from the Intersection list. To remove parts, select the part(s) in the list and then click Remove.
To set individual section cut properties
1. On the Sectioning tab, click the arrow in the Setup group. The Section Properties dialog box opens on the General tab.
2. If the selected section type is Planar, click the Cut1 tab to set properties for the single section plane.
3. If the selected section type is Quarter Cut, click the Cut1 tab to set properties for the first section cut. Click the Cut2 tab to set properties for the second section cut.
On the Cut1 and Cut2 tabs, set section plane orientation and intersecting point location properties.
1. Under Section Plane Orientation, set section plane orientation either by reference or directly.
To set section plane orientation by reference:
1. Click Set by Reference, the Section Plane Orientation dialog box appears.
2. Select the reference in the graphics area and then click OK in the Section Plane Orientation dialog box.
To set section plane orientation directly, do any of the following under Rotation:
Click About X, About Y, or About Z to align the section plane’s normal to the positive X, Y, or Z axis, respectively. This sets the section plane parallel to Y-Z, X-Z, or X-Y plane, respectively.
To rotate the section plane about the X, Y, or Z axis, enter normal vector coordinate values in the About X, About Y, or About Z boxes, or click the rotation buttons next to these boxes to change the value.
*
Rotating a section plane about its normal axis has no effect on the cross section shape. The plane extends infinitely in all directions. The section plane boundaries shown in the graphics area are for reference only.
2. Under Intersecting Point Location, set section plane location either by reference or directly.
To set section plane location by reference:
1. Click Set by Reference, the Intersecting Point Location dialog box appears.
2. Select the reference in the graphics area and then click OK in the Intersecting Point Location dialog box.
To set section plane location directly, do any of the following under Translation:
Click the positive or negative buttons to move the section plane along the normal, or along the X, Y, or Z axis. Each click moves the section plane one linear unit in the positive or negative direction.
Enter the translation values directly in the Along X, Along Y, and Along Z boxes.
