About Using Layout Entities to Create 3D Geometry
You can copy public entities from a 2D reference layout (CEM file) into a part, creating a layout feature that appears in the Model Tree. The layout feature contains the 2D reference layout and all the entities that you referenced, and includes the hierarchy, user-defined tags, and rule-based property tags of the reference layout. Then you can use the layout feature to create 3D geometry.
During the layout feature creation, you can choose whether to update the copied layout feature if the source layout changes. You can control the updating of the copied layout feature in a number of ways:
Update the changes automatically.
Update changes manually. You can request notification of changes to the source file.
Create a layout feature that is not dependent on the source layout. The layout feature does not update when the source layout file changes.
