Defining the Axis for Thread Milling Sequences
When milling an internal thread, you can plunge and retract the tool along the axis of the hole by setting the value of the ENTER_FROM_HOLE_AXIS or EXIT_TO_HOLE_AXIS parameter to YES in the Edit Parameters dialog box. The approach and exit axis is applied regardless entry or exit move.
For continuous cuts, internal threads are cut using the centre axis of the hole:
1. The tool plunges down the axis of the hole to the start surface for thread milling.
2. The entry move is applied.
3. The hole is thread milled.
4. The exit move is applied.
5. The tool moves to the hole axis and retracts.
Steps 1 through 5 are repeated for the next internal thread until all threads are cut.
For interrupted cuts, internal threads are cut using the centre axis of the relevant hole:
1. The tool plunges down the axis of the hole to the start surface for thread milling.
2. The entry move is applied.
3. The first interrupted cut is done.
4. The exit move is applied.
5. The tool moves from the exit move of the previous interrupted cut to the hole axis and retracts.
6. The tool moves from the hole axis to the entry move of the next interrupted cut.
Steps 1 through 6 are repeated until all interrupted cuts are complete.
