To Append a DXF or DWG File to a Drawing
1. Open a drawing. The default Layout tab is available in the Drawing mode.
2. Click Layout > Insert > Import Drawing/Data. The Open dialog box opens.
3. Select DXF (*.dxf) or DWG (*.dwg) in the Type box. The DXF or DWG files in the working directory are listed.
4. Select the file that you want to import from the list of files. The Import DXF or Import DWG dialog box opens.
5. Select a layout, drawing sheet or Model Space for the imported drawing from the Space Name layout list.

* You cannot select more than one layout for the drawing even if the appended drawing consists of multiple drawing sheets.
6. Under Import Dimensions, select one of the following:
As Dimensions
As Separate Entities
As Symbols
7. Select the required import options:
Import Associative Dimensions—Imports dimensions retaining their original association with the relevant draft entities when dimensions are associative before import.

* Import Associative Dimensions shows selection and Recompute Associative Dimensions is available when you set the intf2d_in_assoc_dim_geom configuration option to yes.
Recompute Associative Dimensions—Recalculates dimension values or the distance of the draft entities from the dimension witness lines before associating the dimensions with the draft entities closest to the dimension witness lines. Use this option with the Import Associative Dimensions or Automatically Associate Dimensions option.

* Recompute Associative Dimensions shows selection when you set the intf2d_in_recompute_dim_value configuration option to yes.
Automatically Associate Dimensions—Automatically associates the imported dimensions with the relevant draft entities when the dimensions are not associative before import.

* Automatically Associate Dimensions shows selection and Recompute Associative Dimensions is available when you set the auto_associate_dimensions configuration option to yes.
Import 3DSOLID entities—Imports 3D solid entities as views of an assembly.

* Import 3DSOLID entities is available only if the imported DXF file contains at least one 3D solid entity.
Import Blocks As Symbols—Imports AutoCAD blocks as symbols. For each block instance a separate symbol definition is used.
Import Points—Imports DXF or DWG point entities as drawing points.
Create Variable Size Sheet—Selected by default. Drawing sheets of different sizes, especially for a multiple-sheet drawing with sheets of variable size, are created depending on the information contained in the imported file.
Create Multi-line Text—Imports the multiple-line text in the imported file as a single multiple-line note.
8. Click the Properties tab to customize the following properties:
Colors
Layers
Line Fonts
Text Fonts
9. Click Save Mapping to save the current settings on the Properties tab of the Import DXF or the Import DWG dialog box to the dxf_import.pro or the dwg_import.pro file.
10. Click OK to append the *.dxf or the *.dwg file to the existing drawing. Configuration options corresponding to the options on the Import DXF or the Import DWG dialog box are added with their current values to the current_session.pro file.
