Managing Constraints in Process Guide
To create constraints through the
Process Guide dialog box, you can use the
Constraints Manager dialog box. You can invoke this dialog box only through a
Process Guide dialog box. The
Constraints Manager dialog box is available only if the type is not specified while defining constraints in the
process template.
Using the
Constraints Manager dialog box, you can create one or more constraints for your model and store the data in the active
Process Guide session.
This dialog box includes the following items:
• Current Constraint Set—Displays the existing constraint sets in the model. (A constraint set is simply a collection of constraints.) Click the arrow to display a list of constraint sets already associated with your model.
When you click New, the Constraint Set Definition dialog box appears. It enables you to create a new constraint set by specifying a name and a description.
• Constraints in Current Set—Displays all the constraints that form the constraint set you selected for the Current Constraint Set option. You can add new constraints or modify the existing constraints in the current constraint set.
To add new structural and symmetry constraints to the existing constraints set, use the following:
◦ Create a Displacement Constraint—Opens the
Constraint dialog box. It enables you to specify the translational or rotational degrees of freedom for your model.
◦ Create a Planar Constraint—Opens the
Planar Constraint dialog box. It enables you to create a constraint that allows full planar movement, but constrains off-plane displacement.
◦ Create a Pin Constraint—Opens the
Pin Constraint dialog box. It enables you to control the translation or rotation of a cylindrical surface in 3D models.
◦ Create a Ball Constraint—Opens the
Ball Constraint dialog box. It enables you to create a constraint for a spherical surface, that is a ball joint in which translation is fixed while rotation is free.
◦ Create a Symmetry Constraint—Opens the
Symmetry Constraint dialog box. It enables you to create a cyclic or mirror symmetry constraint for your model.
After you create a constraint, you can edit or delete it by selecting the existing constraint from the available list of constraints using the > or > button, as appropriate. The software edits or removes the selected constraint from the Current Constraint Set list.
