Example: Large Deformation Analysis for Elastoplastic Materials
You can create and run a large deformation analysis to study the large strain deformation in models that are stressed beyond the yield limit of elastoplastic materials.
Consider a model made of an elastoplastic material with a notch N near the center. The 2 ends A and B of the model are pulled by tensile loads as shown in the following figure:
If you define and run a
large deformation analysis for this model, plastic deformation causes the notch to become blunt. You can view the resultant large strains that are produced in the region of the notch tip as shown in the following figure:
