Displacement Constraint—Creo Ansys Simulation
A displacement constraint creates an enforced translational or rotational displacement in a specified direction for a selected reference. Applying a displacement constraint is similar to applying a load to a reference. You can also apply a constraint from a remote point that can be used as an alternative to building a rigid link or weighted link and applying a constraint to it.
To Define a Displacement Constraint
1. Within a structural or modal simulation study, click Ansys Simulation > Displacement. The Displacement Constraint dialog box opens.
2. Specify a Name for the constraint or accept the default name. Optionally, click the color swatch adjacent to the Name box to change the color of the icon, the distribution, and the text displayed for the constraint.
3. Select one or more component, body, surface, edge, curve, or vertex to constrain. Your selections appear in the References collector.
If you select multiple constraints they must all be of the same type.
4. Select one of the following options from the Constrain by list:
Translation and rotation components
1. Accept the default coordinate system, or select any alternative coordinate system from the Model Tree or Graphics Window. Note that the default coordinate system of the model is the reference coordinate system and is automatically displayed in the Coordinate system collector. In the case of an assembly, the coordinate system of the top level assembly is the default coordinate system. If the model does not have a default coordinate system then the button is not available and the Coordinate system collector is empty.
Click to return to using the default coordinate system of the model.
2. Specify values for Translations in the X-, Y-, or Z- direction. You can enter a value, mathematical expression, or parameter name in this field. Accept the units of length for translation or choose others. You can also allow or prevent unlimited translation along any of the three axes using the Free or Fixed option for each direction.
3. Select Free or Fixed to allow or prevent Rotations about the X-, Y-, or Z- axes.
Direction reference—Specify one of the following options to constrain either translation or rotation DOFs:

5. Optionally, click next to More and select the Apply from remote point check box to define the displacement constraint via an arbitrary point in space. Select a vertex or a datum point as the remote originating point.

When you use this option, your reference cannot be a solid body.
Select one of the following options from the Formulation list:
Program Controlled—This is the default value.
Deformable—Select this option to allow the selected reference geometry to deform.
Rigid—Select this option to prevent the selected reference geometry from deforming. The selected geometry maintains the original shape.
Coupled—The selected reference geometry has the same DOF solution on its underlying nodes as the remote point location.
6. Click OK to create the constraint and save it.
