To Generate a Mass Properties Report Based on Model Geometry
Generating a mass property report based on model geometry produces the same results as a mass properties computation through model analysis (accessible by clicking Analysis > Mass Properties). However, a model analysis computation does not change the reported mass property parameter values.
The mass properties report is generated based on the configuration option mp_calc_level.
1. For an assembly or a part, click File > Prepare > Model Properties. The Model Properties dialog box opens. Click change in the Mass Properties line. The Mass Properties dialog box opens.
For a body, right-click the body on the Model Tree and click Mass Properties Settings. The Mass Properties dialog box opens.
2. Select Geometry as the source for mass properties calculation. If you have not changed the PRO_MP_SOURCE parameter value, this is the default source.
3. Select the coordinate system to be used.
4. When the assigned material is invalid, assign another material or modify the existing material.
The following table describes how to assign a valid material or modify the existing material when the assigned materials have missing densities:
Task
Steps to perform
Add a new material from the library and assign it.
a. Click Assign Material. The Assign Material dialog box opens and the parts and bodies that have missing densities appear in the collectors.
b. Click Other. The Materials dialog box opens.
c. Add materials and click OK. The Materials dialog box closes. The materials are added to the source model.
d. In the Assign Material dialog box, click the drop-down arrow and select a material.
e. Click OK. The Assign Material dialog box closes. The selected material is assigned to the parts and bodies in the collectors.
Assign a material that already exists in the source model.
a. Click Assign Material. The Assign Material dialog box opens and the parts and bodies that have missing densities appear in the collectors.
b. Click inside the Source model box and select the model that contains the valid material.
c. Click the drop-down arrow and select the material.
d. Click OK. The Assign Material dialog box closes. The selected material is assigned to the parts and bodies in the collectors.
Edit the assigned material.
*
This option is available only for a single material model.
a. Click Material Definition. The Material Definition dialog box opens.
b. Define the density and other material properties and click OK. The Material Definition dialog box closes.
5. In the Mass Properties dialog box, click Generate Report.
The system calculates the mass properties, displays the results in the Information Window, and saves them in a file objectname.m_p in the current working directory. You can use the Edit command in the Information Window to edit the file, or use the File > Save As command to save it under a different name.
6. Click Close when finished viewing the report.
