Manufacturing > User-Defined Parameters in NC Sequences > Updating User-Defined Parameters
Updating User-Defined Parameters
If you define the user-defined parameters XML file and create new NC sequences, the user-defined parameters are associated with the new NC sequences. For existing NC sequences that do not have user-defined parameters associated with them, click Machine Tool Setup > Update User-Defined Parameters on the Manufacturing tab to add the user-defined parameters as defined in the user-defined parameters XML file.
If you made any changes to the existing definitions in the user-defined parameters XML file, a message appears after you open the saved manufacturing model. The message asks you to confirm whether you want to load the new definitions or retain existing definitions. Click Yes to load the new definitions or click No to retain the existing definitions. If you click Yes to load the new definitions based on the changes in the user-defined parameters XML file, the updated parameters are available in the User-Defined Parameters dialog box when creating new sequences. For sequences that are already associated with user-defined parameters, using the Update User-Defined Parameters command updates the existing user-defined parameters to the new or updated parameters with their default values as defined in the modified user-defined XML file. The updated default values override the existing values for the user-defined parameters in the User-Defined Parameters dialog box.
*
It is recommended to use the Update User-Defined Parameters command to match the updated definitions every time after you reload the modified XML file on model retrieval.
If you click No to retain the existing definitions and then use the Update User-Defined Parameters command for sequences associated with user-defined parameters, the default values for user-defined parameters in the XML file originally saved with the model persist. The new or updated parameters in the modified XML file are not available till the latest XML definitions are reloaded on model retrieval. To use the new or updated definitions of user-defined parameters, retrieve the model after every update of user-defined parameter XML file, and then click Yes to confirm loading of new or updated definitions. Click Machine Tool Setup > Update User-Defined Parameters on the Manufacturing tab to match the new or updated definitions. For example, new parameters are added, and old parameters are removed in the User-Defined Parameters dialog box per the definitions in the modified user-defined parameter XML file.
*
If you modify the user-defined XML parameter file when a manufacturing model is open, it is recommended to reopen the saved manufacturing model and confirm the new definitions. Then use the Update User-Defined Parameters command to update the existing user-defined parameters with the modified user-defined parameters. This ensures that the updated user-defined parameters are available for the NC sequences.
