About Creating Drawings by the Related Model Names
When you click File > New, select Drawing as the file type, and then select the Use drawing model file name check box in the New dialog box, the following occurs:
The name generated for the drawing is the same as the name of the related model.
In the File name box of the New dialog box, <Generated> appears.
The selection of the Use drawing model file name check box persists until the drawing generation is complete.
The selection of the Use drawing model file name check box is applied to the additional drawings created in the Creo Parametric session.
The selected state of the Use drawing model file name check box persists across the Creo Parametric sessions.
When you are in a Creo Parametric session that is connected to Windchill, the generation of the drawing names are also determined by the following settings in Windchill:
The Windchill server preference, Inherit Model File Name, set to yes or no.
Autonumbering ON or OFF.
The Inherit Model File Name server preference enables new drawings to retain the names of the related drawing models or be assigned the automatically-generated model names and numbers. It is set to yes by default.
The selection of the Use drawing model file name check box in the New dialog box and the generation of the drawing names in Creo Parametric depend on how the Inherit Model File Name server preference and autonumbering are set in Windchill. The results are as follows in Creo Parametric:
When the Inherit Model File Name preference is set to yes in Windchill, the Use drawing model file name check box is selected by default in the New dialog box.
Result: The drawing file name is generated using the related model name and <Generated> appears in the File name box of the New dialog box.
The Inherit Model File Name preference is set to no while autonumbering is ON in Windchill.
Result: The file name and number for the drawing are automatically generated because autonumbering is ON. The drawing file does not inherit the drawing model name and <Generated> appears in the File name box.
The Inherit Model File Name preference is set to no while autonumbering is OFF in Windchill.
Result: The file name and number for the drawing are not generated automatically and the drawing file does not inherit the name of the related model. Instead, the drawing is created with the generic name such as DRW0001.
*
For both values of the Inherit Model File Name server preference, regardless of whether the Use drawing model file name check box is selected in the New dialog box, the drawing name appears as <Generated> in the File name box.
If a drawing of the same name exists or the drawing is in session, an error appears in the message area. If the drawing model is not selected in the New Drawing dialog box or there are file name conflicts when the Use drawing model file name check box is selected in the New dialog box, the appropriate error appears in the error dialog box. Click OK in the error dialog box and resolve these errors.
