About Using the Diagnostics Tool
You can access the asynchronous Troubleshooter in Import DataDoctor, even while performing a task. You can use this tool to check for potential problems and errors in the imported model. You can use Troubleshooter to zoom in and highlight the defective geometry or the potential problem areas in the model. You can thereafter study the problem statements and the severity of the defects and make an informed decision on how to proceed. You can choose to ignore or resolve the identified defects. You may or may not resolve them according to the recommended solutions.
You can access Troubleshooter in the IDD environment from Analyze > Geometry Checks. Troubleshooter in the IDD environment does not perform the same checks as the Troubleshooter outside IDD. For Troubleshooter to display the defective geometry in the imported model, you must first specify the search criteria in the IDD Troubleshooter Settings dialog box accessed from Edit > IDD Settings in the Troubleshooter. To define this search criteria for the model, you must select the various geometry checks or the diagnostics and specify threshold values where relevant in the IDD Troubleshooter Settings dialog box. The important and high priority diagnostics and checks show default selection in the IDD Troubleshooter Settings dialog box. The Troubleshooter performs the analysis and the diagnostics when it starts or when you modify the settings or change the imported geometry in the IDD environment.
Though the Troubleshooter performs the diagnostics of the entire imported model, it only displays the diagnostics of the node that is active in the Geometry and Topology Structure (GTS) tree. The Troubleshooter displays the diagnostics under the relevant base-level node, categorized according to their types, in the descending order of severity, such as errors, warnings, and information. The diagnostics that are not displayed are retained in the ignored list. You can use Edit > Restore All or View > Show ignored in the Troubleshooter to restor their display.
Expand a node in the Troubleshooter tree to view its geometry checks arranged in the following order and identified by dots in distinct colors as follows:
Errors—Red
Warnings—Yellow
Information—Blue
You can select a diagnostic in the Troubleshooter to highlight the corresponding defective geometry in the model in green. The defective geometry or the problem area zooms in and the text area of the Troubleshooter displays the diagnostic type and the suggested solution for the selected diagnostics. You can deselect View > Auto Refit to highlight the defective geometry without zoom.
You can also right-click a diagnostic in the Troubleshooter tree and click Select Problem Geometry to select and highlight the relevant defective geometry in the model. Click Select Parent Node on the shortcut menu to select the base-level node to which the problem geometry belongs. Standard Troubleshooter options, such as the display of all diagnostics, the ignore of one or all diagnostics, the display or ignore of notes in the Information Window, are also available in the IDD environment.
