To Define a Layer State
Use the Layer Tree to set the desired layer display, use the Model Tree to hide or show components included in the Hidden Items layer. Then use the View Manager to create, apply, and save layer states.
1. Click . The View Manager dialog box opens.
2. Click the Layers tab. The Layers page opens.
3. Click New. A default layer state name is created.
4. Press ENTER to accept the default name or type a new one and press ENTER. The layer state is created and becomes the active layer state.

To leave the first layer state as the initial layer state, create another new layer state. Make sure the second layer state is active before you start making changes. You cannot specifically save a layer state without changes, but it is saved when you save the model.
5. Click > Layer Tree to display the Layer Tree. (Click > Model Tree to display the Model Tree.)
6. In an assembly or part, set the visibility status of one or more of the following objects:
Layers—Set the visibility of layers in the Layer Tree
Components—Hide or show components in the Model Tree
A plus sign (+) appears next to the layer state name to indicate it has been modified.
7. Save the changes:
Save the changes in the active layer state:
In the View Manager dialog box, click Edit > Save.
In the Layer Tree, right-click and select Save. Click No to save the changes to a new layer state. A default name is created.
The Save Display Elements dialog box opens. Click OK.
Save the changes to a new layer state:
a. Click New. A new layer state is created.
b. Double-click to activate the new layer state. The new layer state captures the current statuses in the model.
8. To rename an existing layer state, select it from the list and click Edit > Rename or right-click and select Rename. Type a new name for the layer state and press ENTER.
9. To remove a layer state, select it from the list and click Edit > Remove or right-click and select Remove.
10. Save the model. The layer states defined are saved with the assembly or part.
