To Create a Boolean Feature
1. In an open assembly, click > . The Component Menu Manager appears.
2. Click Boolean Operations. The Boolean Operations dialog box opens.
3. Select an operation from the Boolean Operation list.
◦ Add Bodies—Copies and adds the bodies of the Modifying Components to the Modified Models. The number of bodies in the modified component increases to include the bodies of the modifying components.
◦ Merge—Merges components in the assembly, copying and adding material from the Modifying Components to the Modified Models.
◦ Cut—Removes Modifying Components material from the Modified Models.
◦ Intersect—Creates an intersection of material from the Modified Models and Modifying Components.
4. Select an option from the Method list.
◦ Geometry (default)—Creates a Boolean feature that references the modifying component geometry.
◦ Features—Copies all features from the modifying components to the modified part. This options is available for Merge, Cut, and Add Bodies.
5. When you create a Boolean feature that references the modifying component’s geometry the following options are available.
◦ Set the type of Update Control:
▪ Automatic update—Updates the Boolean feature automatically when the modifying components were modified and are in session.
▪ Manual update—Allows manual update of the Boolean feature when the modifying components were modified and are in session.
▪ No dependency—Does not update the Boolean feature when the modifying components were modified and are in session.
◦ Associative placement—Updates the Boolean feature according to placement of the modifying components. Only available for Automatic and Manual update
◦ Transfer References—Transfers references from the modifying components to the Boolean feature. Only available for Merge and Add Bodies.
◦ Discard modifying components—Deletes the modifying components when the Boolean feature is created.
◦ Copy Datum Planes—Copies datum planes to the modified model when the Boolean feature is created.
◦ Copy Quilts—Copies quilts to the modified model when the Boolean feature is created.
◦ Include Construction Bodies—Includes construction bodies from the modifying components. When you select the Include Construction Bodies check box, the construction bodies are copied and added to the modified component as construction bodies.
6. Include Properties of copied entities—Defines the properties of the copied entities to include in the modified model when you add bodies or merge. All properties in the list that follows are copied by default. You can then decide which properties you do not want to copy.
◦ Appearance—Appearances applied to the copied entities.
◦ Parameters—Parameters of the copied entities.
◦ Names—Names. When cleared, generic names are provided for copied entities.
◦ Layers—Layer assignment. Places the copied entities on layers with the same name when they exist in the target part.
◦ Materials—Material assignment. When the material does not exist in the target part, it is copied to the target part and assigned to the newly created body. When cleared, the newly created body is assigned the master material of the target part and a material can be explicitly assigned to the copied body in the target.
◦ Construction yes/no—Construction attribute of a body, whether the copied body is a construction body or not.
7. Click Preview to display a preview of the resulting geometry.
8. Click OK.
