About Using the PTC_CONSTRAINT_SET Parameter to Place Components
When you place a component with more than one constraint set, the PTC_CONSTRAINT_SET parameter is automatically created for the component. You can use this parameter to create a variety of placement options for the component in the assembly. The component parameter value is a case sensitive string. When more than one constraint set is used for the placement definition, connections for example, the value of the parameter is a coma separated list of sets.
You can disable a constraint set in the Placement tab of the Component Placement tab and create a new constrain set. This constraint set is added as a new value for the PTC_CONSTRAINT_SET parameter. When one value, constraint set or sets, is active the remaining values are disabled.
You can vary the PTC_CONSTRAINT_SET parameter in Family Table instances. When the activated constraint set differs from that in the generic assembly, the component is placed differently in the instance. When you edit the PTC_CONSTRAINT_SET parameter value using the Parameters dialog box, it takes effect after the next regeneration. The Family Table entry for the particular instance is updated as well.
When you change the PTC_CONSTRAINT_SET parameter in the PDM system, value validation occurs when the assembly is retrieved.
