Shell Thickness
The properties of a shell are determined by thickness, material, and shape. The following points are true for shell thickness:
• Your model must have either a constant or variable thickness.
• The thickness of a body you model with one or more entities should be significantly smaller than the length of any of the body's other dimensions and radii of curvature.
• As a guideline, the ratio of the body's thickness to its other dimensions should not be greater than 1 to 10 and no less than 1 to 1000.
• For shells, the thickness times the maximum curvature cannot be more than 1.5.
In this illustration, the face of the entity that appears in the work area is the midsurface of the entity. For example, if you assign a thickness of 1 to a shell, the element actually has a thickness of 0.5 in each direction.
