Bearing Loads
Use > in Structure to create a bearing load on the surface or curve of a hole. Bearing loads are special-purpose loads that approximate the distribution of a force in a particular direction, for example, on a bolt through a hole. You can expect a tapering effect with this type of load. Bearing loads approximate the pressure applied to a 3D surface (hole) or a 2D circle (ring) by a rigid pin or axle passing through the center of a hole or ring.

When you click > , the Bearing Load dialog box opens with the following items:
• Name—The name of the load. The color swatch adjacent to
Name allows you to
change the color of the icon, the distribution, and the text displayed for the load.
• Member of Set—The name of the
load set. You can select an existing load set from the drop-down list, or create a new set by clicking
New to display the
Load Set Definition dialog box.
• References—The types of references. You can select one of the following reference types to apply the bearing load:
◦ Edges/Curves—When you select this type, you can select edges of cylindrical surfaces or holes as references to apply bearing load. You can select only circular curves and not elliptical curves. This reference type is not available for 3D models.
◦ Surfaces—When you select this type, you can select cylindrical surfaces as references. You can select only circular surfaces. You can not select elliptical surfaces. This reference type is not available for 2D models.
If you have selected any valid geometrical references before opening the Bearing Load dialog box, the selections appear in the References collector of the dialog box when it opens.
• CSYS—Allows you to select the coordinate system that the bearing load will reference. You must select a Cartesian coordinate system. The default is the
current coordinate system.

• Force—Allows you to specify the
direction and magnitude of the bearing load vector. You can
select units of force from the drop-down list of units at the bottom of the
Bearing Load dialog box. The load vector cannot be parallel to the axis of one or more selected holes.
Creo Simulate ignores any portion of the load vector that is parallel to the hole axis.
| For 3D models, Creo Simulate ignores the component of the load vector that is parallel to the axis of the hole or cylinder when calculating the magnitude of the load. When you specify the direction and magnitude of the load vector using the Dir Vector & Mag or Dir Points & Mag option, Creo Simulate uses the specified magnitude. Creo Simulate projects the load vector into the plane that is perpendicular to the axis of the hole and uses the projected vector to determine the direction of the bearing load. |
• Preview—Adds a series of arrows to your model showing the location and distribution of the bearing load.
