Run Methods
While performing an FEA analysis, Creo Simulate passes the model mesh data to the solver for processing. You can conduct the solve either online or in the background. You can also display the results on the screen for the solver of your choice. If you want to use the model data outside of Creo Simulate, you can also generate an output deck for the solver of your choice.
By default, Creo Simulate stores all the analysis output files in the study directory named after the selected analysis. The study directory and all the output files, except for the model snapshot, use the same base name as the selected analysis. Note that if you select more than one analysis at a time, you are prompted to accept the default name, that is, the name of the first selected analysis, or enter a new name for the study directory.
*
When you work with family tables or have simplified representations of your model, only the generic and master representations of the model are saved. If you want to view the model snapshot of the analysis, then open the respective family table instance or simplified representation of your model.
The run methods area of the Run FEM Analysis dialog box includes these items:
Output to File—Generates a formatted deck for the selected solver. You can use this deck outside of Creo Simulate as input for your solver. If you select this option and have set the fem_study_directory configuration option to no, then you must enter the file name that you want Creo Simulate to use when writing the deck or accept the default file name.
You can also generate an output deck to a user-defined solver that supports an FEM Neutral File format.
Run Online—Runs the solver online and saves the mesh and results in the frd file. This ties up the Creo Parametric session until the processing is complete. When the processing is complete, the system automatically starts the postprocessor and loads the results section from the frd file into memory.
Run in Background—Runs the solver in the background and stores the results in the frd file. Your current session is not interrupted and you can continue working with another model. After the processing is complete, you can view the analysis results in the postprocessor.

You must supply the software with the correct path to the FEA executable for the run methods Run Online or Run in Background. You should provide the path by including the appropriate options in your configuration file.
Display Only—Simulates the process of output to a file for the selected solver. You can use this option to test the output process without writing to a file and review the output such as nodes, elements, and for loads using the Mesh Review tab. If you select the Ignore Errors option, Creo Simulate skips error checking and allows you to complete the simulation of output process even with modeling errors. Note that the Ignore Errors option is available only for the Display Only run method.
You can view the FEA solver results in the postprocessor only if you select Run Online or Run in Background.
