About the Laminate Layup
A laminate consists of a number of layers, or plies, stacked on each other. When you define your 3D shell property as a laminate layup, you can:
• specify the properties for each ply
• obtain ply-by-ply stress results (native mode)
• parameterize ply thickness and orientation
You can review the properties for each ply in the results.

When you select Laminate Layup on the Shell Property Definition dialog box, additional items appear on the dialog box:
For each ply, you must specify the following information:
• Type—Select
(single layer) or
(multiple layers or Sub-laminates) from the drop-down list.
• Unit—Select a unit of thickness from the drop-down list.
| The Thickness and the Unit boxes are inactive for sub-laminate layers, the net thickness value is in PSU unit. |
Use the
buttons to the right of the dialog box to control your laminate layup table.
For ease of use when modelling composites and the ability to compute ply stresses in the postprocessor, use Laminate Layup rather than Laminate Stiffness.
| In the FEM mode, Creo Simulate supports laminate layup shell properties and material orientations assigned to surfaces for NASTRAN only. If you are running an analysis with another solver, Creo Simulate informs you that you cannot run the analysis with the solver you have chosen. |
