FEM Mesh Settings Dialog Box
Click Home and then click the arrow next to Mesh. Click Settings to open the FEM Mesh Settings dialog box to control FEM mesh settings.
Specify values for the following settings:
Shell Element Type—This area allows you to specify how Creo Simulate constructs the shell mesh portion of your model. It has the following items:
Triangles—Specifies that the shell mesh consists of triangular elements.
Quads and Triangles—Specifies that the shell mesh consists of quadrilateral elements. If you select this method, Creo Simulate applies quadrilateral elements to as much of the model as it can. In areas where it cannot use quadrilateral elements due to the model geometry, Creo Simulate uses triangular elements as fillers.
The default shell element type is quadrilateral and is controlled by the fem_shell_elem_type configuration option.
Miscellaneous Settings—Settings for handling unpaired and unopposed surfaces in a shell model.
Ignore Unpaired Surfaces—Ignores unpaired surfaces in the model. Creo Simulate does not notify you of unpaired surfaces. Instead, it displays your model without the unpaired surfaces. If this box is not selected Creo Simulate alerts you of all unpaired surfaces. The default value of this item is controlled by the sim_ignore_unpaired configuration option. You cannot access this check box if the current mesh type does not include shell compression.
Remove Unopposed Surfaces—Removes any unopposed surfaces from the model. If this check box is not selected Creo Simulate will notify you of the unopposed surfaces. The default value of this option is controlled by the sim_remove_unopposed configuration option. You cannot access this check box if the current mesh type does not include shell compression.
Create Solid-Shell Links—Creates solid-shell links for all the solid-shell interfaces that have a bonded connection and merged nodes. Clear this check box to prevent the links from being created.
Mesh Optimization Steps—Use this option to control the number of passes of mesh improvement or optimization to be performed. This option has a default value of 2.
When you save the model, the values entered for these settings are saved with the model.
