To Create a Datum Point On or Offset from a Coordinate System or Its Axis or a Vertex
1. Click Model, click the arrow next to Point, and click Point. The Datum Point dialog box opens.
2. Choose one of the following actions:
To create a datum point on a coordinate system, select the coordinate system in the graphics window or the Model Tree and click OK.
To create a datum point offset from a coordinate system, perform the following actions:
1. In the graphics window, select a coordinate system or a vertex. The selected coordinate system or vertex appears in the References collector.
2. Holding down the CTRL key, select a coordinate system or an axis of a coordinate system in the graphics window. The selected coordinate system or axis appears in the References collector, below the selected coordinate system or vertex.
*
You can also select a combination of any of the following:
Two coordinate systems
A coordinate system and an axis of a coordinate system
A coordinate system and a straight curve, edge, or axis
A coordinate system and a datum plane or planar surface
A vertex and a coordinate system or an axis of a coordinate system
A datum point and a coordinate system or an axis of a coordinate system
3. In the Offset type box, select one of the following offset types:
Cartesian—Offsets a coordinate system by specifying the x, y, and z values.
Cylindrical—Offsets a coordinate system by specifying radius, theta, and z values.
Spherical—Offsets a coordinate system by specifying radius, theta, and phi values.
*
Three-dimensional offset is available only if you select a coordinate system as the second reference. If you select an axis of a coordinate system as the second reference, then you can offset the datum point only along the selected axis.
4. To set the offset value, perform one of these actions:
In the Datum Point dialog box, type the offset value.
In the graphics window, double-click the offset dimension and type a value.
In the graphics window, drag the offset handle to the offset location.
5. Click OK.
