To Resolve Failed Chamfers Using End Surfaces
If your chamfer geometry has failed because it cannot be attached to the part, use the following procedure to change the attachment type from a solid to a surface. This enables you to save the problematic chamfer geometry until you can resolve the geometry errors. After you resolve the errors, you can create a new solid chamfer from the quilt.
1. Select the references for the chamfer, and on the Model tab, click the arrow next to Chamfer and click Edge Chamfer. The Edge Chamfer tab opens.
2. Click the Options tab.
3. Click the Surface or New quilt attachment type. Note that New quilt is available only if you select a surface quilt as one of your references.
4. If you need to create end surfaces to cap all of the chamfer piece ends of the entire chamfer feature, click the Create end surfaces check box.
5. If you need to create end surfaces to cap the gaps between the active transition and the part geometry, click Capped on the Edge Chamfer tab. You must be in Transition mode to cap the active transition.
6. Click OK to save your changes, create the chamfer, and close the Chamfer tool.
7. Use the Creo surface tools (surface extend, surface trim, etc.) to modify the surface and resolve the errors.
8. Use the Solidify tool (Model > Solidify) on the quilt to make the surface chamfer a solid chamfer.

Side surfaces must exist in order to extend and use them as capping surfaces. If not, the chamfer piece cannot be capped.
You can only cap chamfers between surfaces of the same quilt or the same body.
You can also use the Capped shortcut menu command from within the graphics window to quickly cap the gaps between the active transition and part geometry.
