About the Datum Axis User Interface
The Datum Axis user interface consists of the Datum Axis dialog box and shortcut menus. Click Model > Axis to open the Datum Axis dialog box.
Datum Axis Dialog Box
The Datum Axis dialog box contains the following tabs:
Placement
References collector—Places a new datum axis by referencing datum features, intent features, geometry, facet faces, facet edges, and facet vertices.
Constraint list—Sets the constraint for each reference. Located in the References collector next to each reference.
Through—Places the datum axis through the selected reference.
Normal—Places the datum axis normal to the selected reference. This constraint requires you to either define references in the Offset references collector, or add an additional point or vertex to fully constrain the axis.
Offset references collector—Places the datum axis at a distance from the selected reference. Type a distance value.
Tangent—Places the datum axis tangent to the selected references. This constraint requires you to add an additional point or vertex as a reference. An axis is created parallel to the tangent vector at the location of the point or vertex.
Center—Places the datum axis through the center of the selected planar circular edge or curve and normal to the plane on which the selected curve or edge lies.
Display
Adjust outline check box—Adjusts the length of the datum axis outline so that the datum axis outline fits to a specified size or to a selected reference.
Size—Adjusts the length of the datum axis using a value.
Length value box—Specifies a length value for the datum axis.
Reference—Adjust the length of the datum axis to fit to the selected reference.
Fit Outline reference collector—Displays the selected reference edge, surface, datum axis, feature in the Part mode, or a part in the Assembly mode to which the datum axis is sized.
Properties
Name box—Sets a name for a feature.
—Displays detailed component information in a browser.
Shortcut Menus
Right-click the graphics window when the Datum Axis dialog box is open to access shortcut menu commands.
Placement References—Activates the References collector.
Offset References—Activates the Offset references collector.
Fit Outline—Activates the Fit Outline reference collector on the Display tab where you specify the reference to which the datum axis display outline is sized. This option is available only when you select the Adjust outline check box on the Display tab, and select Reference from the menu.
Clear—Clears the active collector.
Right-click a collector to access shortcut menu commands.
Remove—Clears the selected reference.
Information—Displays information about the selected reference in a browser or the Information window.
