To Edit or Replace the References of Features
You can change the references of multiple objects, features, or references at the same time. There are three main workflows:
Use Edit References to change the references used by the selected features.
Use Replace References to change the references owned by the selected features.
Use Replace References to change the selected references directly.
Though you collect the original references in different ways, such as a feature that is the child of references, a feature that is the owner of references, a reference, or set of references, the workflow is similar.
1. Select features, references, or sets of references, and perform one of these actions:
In the Model Tree, graphics window, or Reference Viewer, right-click the feature and choose Edit References or Replace References.
Click Model > Operations > Edit References.
Click Model > Operations > Replace References.
The Edit References or the Replace Referencesdialog box opens, and shows the references used by the selected features or references.
2. When you are editing the references of an external Copy Geometry feature, to show all the types of indirect references that are available for editing, perform the following actions:
a. Click Indirect References Filters.
b. Select the Indirect References check box.
c. Select the check boxes next to the geometry types to display.
3. To set the display options, perform any of the following actions. You can set more than one option:
To display a list of all the entities for which references must be replaced as a result of changing the references of the selected references, including their child features, click Recursive References.
To automatically display a preview of the results after you select a new reference, select the Dynamic Preview check box. If you do not want to display a preview, clear this check box.
4. To change a reference:
a. Under Original references, select a reference.
b. Click the New reference collector, and select the replacement reference.
All the child features are selected for their reference to be replaced. If you selected Recursive References, then the child features of the references you selected to replace also appear in the Original references list.
5. To replace a body reference with a new body reference:
a. Under Original references, select a body.
b. Make sure the collector under New reference is active.
c. Click Model > New Body. The Body dialog box opens. The name of the new body is displayed, but you can type a new name.
d. Click OK. The new body name appears in the New reference collector.
e. Click OK.
6. To reset a changed reference back to the original reference, select the reference under Original references, and click Reset.
7. To remove child features from the list of features whose reference is replaced, under Update child features, clear the check boxes next to the required child features.
8. To roll the model to the most recent feature from which a reference can be selected for the selected reference, click Roll To. This feature is shown next to Roll To.
9. To cycle through the possible positions for the feature that would result from the references:
a. To regenerate the model with the references that were edited so far, click Preview.
b. Under Update child features click next to the feature. Each click places the feature at the next possible position.
*
The button is available for features with internal datum planes if at least one reference of an internal datum plane has been replaced by a new reference, and the feature has been regenerated.
10. To view features in the Reference Viewer, right-click the feature and choose Reference Viewer.
11. Click OK.
