To Use a Skirt Surface to Create a Parting Surface
You must unblank the work piece or die block to proceed.
1. Click Mold > Parting Surface > Extend Curve or click Cast > Extend Curve. The Extend Curve tab opens.
2. To change the default reference model or boundary reference, click References. The References tab opens. Perform the following operations:
a. Activate the Reference Model collector and select a reference model from the Model Tree.
b. Activate the Boundary Reference collector and select a workpiece, die block, mold or die volume, or mold or die component from the Model Tree.
*
The boundary reference must completely enclose the curve.
3. Activate the Chain collector, and select one or more curve or edge references, such as a silhouette curve, to extend.
4. To change the default settings of the extension, click Extensions. The Extensions tab opens. Perform the following operations:
a. To create sets of extensions, click New Extension and select one or more curves or edges for the set.
b. Select an extension direction from the list and set any associated options.
5. To create transition surfaces across extension sets, click the Create Transitions check box. The set of surfaces selected for the tangent boundary must be closed.
6. To create a shut off area, perform these operations:
a. Click Shut Off. The Shut Off tab opens.
b. Select a type of shut off from the list.
For Boundary, calculates the offset using the reference defined for the boundary.
For Distance, set the value to define the offset distance from the curve, select a plane to define the parting plane, and set the draft angle.
For To a Reference, select a closed curve as a reference to define the offset distance from the curve, select a plane to define the parting plane, and set the draft angle.
7. Fill any loops that lie on the parting surface.
8. Click .
