Example: Analyzing the Cross Section of a Pipe
Summary—This example shows you how to create a User Defined Analysis (UDA) to investigate how a model parameter changes along a trajectory.
Problem—Need to analyze how the cross-section of a solid pipe changes along its trajectory.
Solution—You can create an analysis feature to compute the cross-section at a point on the curve and create a UDA to analyze the cross-section along the entire curve.
Follow these steps to create the UDA:
1. Create a field point on the trajectory curve and click Insert > Model Datum > Point > Field.
2. Create a datum plane through the field point.
3. Create an analysis feature to measure the cross-section of the pipe.
4. Click Analysis > Model > X-Section Mass Properties. The Cross Section Properties dialog box opens.
5. Click the Analysis tab if it is not selected by default and select the type of analysis.
6. Click Saved to display and dynamically update the analysis while modeling.
7. Enter a name for the analysis, for example, pipe_area.
8. Click the Definition tab to customize or edit your analysis.
9. Under Cross Section, select an x-section name or select the reference datum plane in the Plane collector.
10. Under Coordinate System, the selected coordinate system is displayed in the collector. Click Use default to select the default coordinate system.
11. Click to compute the analysis. A coordinate system is displayed at the center of gravity of the x-section in the Creo Parametric graphics window. The result of the analysis is displayed in the Results box and the report is displayed in an information window.
12. Click to complete the analysis.
13. On the Model Tree, select the field point, the datum plane through the field point, and the analysis feature as the last item.
14. Click Edit > Group to create a UDA Construction group.
15. Click Analysis > User-Defined Analysis to create a user-defined analysis using the Construction group you have just defined.

For a hollow pipe (with or without thickness), create a flat surface using the datum through the field point as the sketching plane. Sketch the surface outline using the Use Edge option.
