Manufacturing > Manufacturing > Process Manager > Working with Manufacturing Templates > To Place a UDF in a Manufacturing Model
To Place a UDF in a Manufacturing Model
1. Click Model > User-Defined Feature. The Open dialog box opens.
2. Select a UDF file, that is, a file with the .gph extension, that you want to insert in the manufacturing model and click Open. The Insert User-Defined Feature dialog box opens.
3. Click one or more of the following:
Make features dependent on dimensions of UDF—Click this check box if you want the UDF to drive the group. The dimensions of a UDF-driven group are updated either automatically whenever the model is retrieved, or when you click Update on the GROUP menu. Because the variable dimensions of a group are not UDF-driven, they are unaffected by any change to the dimensions of the UDF. Variable elements also remain unaffected.
Advanced reference configuration—Click this check box if you want to specify advanced reference configurations while placing the UDF. The Advanced reference configurationis selected automatically if you click the Make features dependent on dimensions of UDF check box.
View source model—Click this check box if you want to view the source model from which the UDF is created. If you click this check box, then Creo NC keeps the source model open in a separate window while you place the UDF. The View source model check box is available only if you have included the model while creating the UDF.
4. Click OK. One of the following dialog boxes opens based on the check boxes you selected in the Insert User-Defined Feature dialog box:
The User Defined Feature Placement dialog box opens if you clicked the Advanced reference configuration check box.
The Scale dialog box opens if you have cleared both the Make features dependent on dimensions of UDF check box and the Advanced reference configuration check box.
*
In both cases, if you select the View source model check box, Creo Parametric opens the source model in a separate window.
5. Do one of the following:
In the User Defined Feature Placement dialog box, specify advanced reference configurations to place the UDF and click .
In the Scale dialog box, click one of the following to specify the placement scale and click OK.
Keep dimension values—Retains the numeric value for all dimension values, regardless of any difference in units for the model and the UDF group. For example, the dimension 25 inches becomes 25 millimeters.
Keep feature sizes—The size of the group remains the same as when you created it. This is done by re-scaling the dimension values while you place the UDF. Dimensions are converted appropriately, for example, millimeters to inches. This option is available only when the model and the group have different units.
Scale by value—Scales all the dimensions by a scale factor that you specify in the Scaling factor box. This option does not change the units of the group.
The DIRECTION menu appears.
6. If required, click Flip to flip the direction of the UDF or Okay to proceed with the existing direction.
7. If the UDF includes a manufacturing annotation element, a dialog box opens listing the various manufacturing criteria names that you can use for the selected UDF. The default manufacturing criteria name is UNDEFINED. If you select UNDEFINED as the manufacturing criteria name, then the manufacturing criteria is not created. To create a manufacturing criteria, select a name other than UNDEFINED from the list and click OK.
*
This dialog box opens only if you set the mfg_udf_info_setup_file configuration option to point to the UDF-MFG Criteria mapping file. The UDF-MFG Criteria mapping file has a .xml extension.
8. After you place the UDF, the GRP PLACE menu appears. Select one of the following commands:
Redefine—Redefines the UDF group references in the same way as you defined them.
Show Result—Previews the geometry.
Info—Shows the current status of the UDF group.
9. If satisfied with the group placement, click Done on the GRP PLACE menu. The group is created and Group <udf name> appears on the Model Tree.
