About Placing Components in an ECAD Assembly
When you place a component in an ECAD assembly, the default placement is relative to the board part. The system recognizes an ECAD component as a component where the first CSYS in the component is a designated CSYS. The component is placed coincident to the selected top or bottom surface of the board. The default placement on a rigid board is the top surface of the board. You set 2 linear offset references for X and Y placement. You can place components relative to the board when it is in a folded or flat state.
You can place components manually, or you can use interfaces when they exist.
When components are placed relative to the board or imported from the ECAD side, they will remain in the same place on the board when it is bent, unbent, or when the bend angle changes. When you place a component manually, there is no guarantee it will remain in the same place on the board when the board is unbent or the bend angle changes.
When you pattern a component placed on a flexible board, the pattern leader follows the bend. The other members are placed according to the leader and the pattern placement.
When you redefine placement of a component on a flexible board, only the current state of the board is relevant. It is possible that some references will display as missing.
