About Saving Multibodied Parts and Assemblies with Virtual, Internal, and Intersected Components
You can open and save Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, SolidWorks, and NX part models that contain multibodies, SolidWorks assembly models with virtual components, and CATIA V4 *.model assemblies that consist of internal components. The components of Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, and NX assembly models may be intersected by the assembly-level features such as cuts, holes, and rounds from the source CAD systems.
Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, SolidWorks, and NX part models with multibodies open as non-Creo parts in Creo with embedded components. The multibodies open as individual solid bodies that are contained within the part models. The internal and virtual components of CATIA V4 *.model and SolidWorks assemblies are assembled as the internal components of the non-Creo assembly models when you open the CATIA V4 *.model and SolidWorks assemblies in Creo. The components of Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, and NX assembly models that are intersected by the assembly-level features are also assembled as the internal components of the non-Creo assemblies.
You can save the non-Creo models with different structures as Creo part and assembly models. The part components that contain the multibodies and the virtual, internal, and intersected components are saved as Translated Image Models (TIMs) and are referenced by the Creo assembly models. The internal components are saved as separate Creo models by their new names. The Creo models are different from the source CAD structures and they do not have file representations in the source CAD systems.
The non-Creo assemblies that have the following types of embedded components are imported as inseparable assemblies.
Body part components of Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, SolidWorks, and NX exploded multibody assemblies.
Virtual components of SolidWorks assembly models
Components intersected with assembly-level features in Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, and NX assemblies
External copied models are created for these components and the external components are referenced by the Creo assembly models. You must change the Action for the components from Reuse to Save a Copy in the Assembly Save A Copy dialog box.
Similarly, the multibodies of part models and the internal or virtual components of assemblies are mirrored as independent Creo models.
