About the Copy Component Definition Dialog Box
Use the Copy Component Definition dialog box to control the copying of project subassemblies and connector or equipment elements, in the following cases:
Reusing a copy of an existing element.
Replacing an element with a copy of itself.
In the Name box, type the name of the copied element or use the default name.
If the element to copy is an assembly, the Components area of the dialog box is available for you to control the copying of the components of assemblies:
Components—The Components table contains the following elements:
A list of all components of the assembly with their existing names. For components which are assembled multiple times, every instance is listed.
A list of check boxes to control whether components are to be copied. If you select an instance of a component which is assembled multiple times, then all instances are automatically selected for copy. If you select a component which belongs to a subassembly, then the subassembly is automatically selected for copy.
A list of New Name boxes for providing new names for the copies of the subcomponents. If you select the Copy check box for a component, you can type a new name for the component or accept the default name which is created following the rule defined in the File name generation area. If the New Name box becomes red, then the entered name is invalid, or in use, or not a valid model name. If you do not select the Copy check box, the component is not copied when the assembly is copied.
Embedded components are listed in the tree but cannot be copied. Therefore their Copy check box is disabled.

Automatic Selection—If you click Automatic Selection, components are automatically selected for copy and new names appear in the New Name boxes.

In the File name generation area of the dialog box, you can control the new file names that are automatically generated for the copied components by using the following options:

Select Manual to generate file names using templates. This replaces a file name or a part of a file name with new text. Type the text to replace in the first box and the replacing text in the next box.
—Selects all components in the Components tree marked for copy.
—Clears components selected in the Components tree.
Generate new file names—Generates new file names for all selected components using automatic or manual generation.
On the model, components selected for copy are highlighted in red and components which are not selected for copy are highlighted in green. Click OK to accept the definition and perform the copy or click Cancel.
