To Define Groove or Butt Weld Location
You must be on the Groove Weld or Butt Weld tab to perform this procedure.
1. Click the Location tab.
2. To copy the references from the last selected edge preparation feature to use for the weld, click Use Previous next to Edge Preparation.

3. Select references to define the weld location:
a. For both sided symmetrical welding, use the Weld sets list to select the Arrow Side and the Other Side so you can select reference sets for each side.
b. To set the reference type for the reference collectors, set the Select menu to Select chain or Select surface for Side 1 and Side 2.
c. With the Side 1 collector active, select references in the graphics window. You can click Details to open the Surface Sets or Chain dialog box to help collect references. When you select , basic references are selected automatically, to which you might want to add additional references.
d. Click the Side 2 collector and select references for Side 2.
e. Depending on the dimensioning scheme, click the Side 1 Weld Surfaces and Side 2 Weld Surfaces collector and select surfaces to further define Side 1 and Side 2.
4. For flare bevel or flare V groove welds, you can do the following actions:
a. When both collectors are set to Surface, you can select the Allow tangent propagation check box to automatically select surfaces tangent to the surfaces selected in the Side 1 and Side 2 collectors.
b. To edit the start or end of an intermittent weld joint segment, select a joint in the Weld joints table. The Details button becomes active. Click Details. The Joint dialog box opens. In the Joint dialog box, edit the joint start and end.
In the Start list, select an option to set the joint start location:
Select Chain End to start the joint at the end of the chain.
Select Blind to start the joint offset from the chain end, and then type an offset value in the box that appears.
Select To Selected to set the joint by using a reference, and then select a reference in the collector that appears. If you select a coordinate system axis or datum plane, type an offset value in the box that appears.

For a reference to be valid, a point, curve end, or vertex must be located on the joint. A surface or a plane must intersect the joint.
In the End list, select Chain End, Blind and type a value, or To Selected and select a reference and, if you select a coordinate system axis or datum plane, type an offset value.
To change the start point of the joint to the end point of the next joint, click Next end.
To activate the joint that is listed before the current joint in the Weld joints table, click Previous joint.
To activate the joint that is listed after the current joint in the Weld joints table, click Next joint.
Click OK. The Joint dialog box closes.
c. To exclude an intermittent weld joint segment from the weld geometry creation, in the Weld joints table under Status, select Excluded from the list in that segment's row.
d. To display a weld symbol for a joint segment, in the Weld joints table under Attachment, select Yes from the list in that segment's row. To remove a symbol display, select No.
5. For manually setting a lightweight weld trajectory, click the Lightweight weld trajectory collector, and then select a chain reference in the graphics window.
6. To flip the material side 180 degrees, click Flip material side.

The Flip material side button is available for all groove and butt welds except for flare V groove or butt and flare bevel groove or butt welds that use a surface-surface reference scheme.
