Strain Energy Density Results Quantity
You can view strain energy density results for any structural analysis, as long as you select to output Stresses or Ply Stresses when you define the analysis.
Depending upon the type of model for which you are viewing results Creo Simulate displays different options for strain energy density. The result quantity for 3D solids is strain energy per unit volume, for 3D shells the quantity is strain energy per unit area and for beams it is strain energy per unit length. The following table shows the valid types of strain energy density for different model types for different element types:
Strain Energy Density Quantity
3D Model
Plane Strain / Axisymmetric
Plane Stress
Strain Energy per unit volume
For solids
For 2D solids
N/A
Strain Energy per unit area
For shells
For 2D shells
For 2D plates
Strain Energy per unit length
For beams
N/A
When you select Strain Energy from the Quantity drop-down list, Creo Simulate may alter the selections on the Quantity tab. Some selections do not appear unless the item is part of the design study you choose. The possible selections include:
Include contributions from beams—Select the beam contributions to include in the result window definition. This area appears only if there are beams in the model. This area does not appear in FEM mode. The selections in the Include contributions from beams area include:
Shear—Include shear values for shells in the result display.
Bending—Include bending for beams in the result display. In FEM mode, this box is always checked.
Tensile—Include tension for beams in the result display. In FEM mode, this box is always checked.
Torsional—Include torsion for beams in the result display. In FEM mode, this box remains unchecked.
Include contributions from shells—Select the shell contributions to include in the result window definition. This area appears only if there are shells in the model. This area does not appear in FEM mode. The selections in the Include contributions from shells area include:
Membrane—Include membrane values for shells in the result display.
Bending—Include bending values for shells in the result display.
Membrane-Bending—Include both membrane and bending values for shells in the result display.
Transverse Shear—Include shear values for shells in the result display.
Graph Location—Select a location from the drop-down list to display in the result window. Use the selector arrow to display your model and pick the entity you want to use in your results display. This area appears only if you select a display type of Graph.
