To Test Shell Compression
Testing shell compression helps identify problem areas in your model, especially pairing errors. Run this test before you run your analysis so that you can see the midsurface that Creo Simulate has developed from your pairing scheme.
1. Specify how Creo Simulate should handle unopposed and unpaired surfaces using the Settings Tab in native mode or the FEM Mesh Settings Dialog Box in FEM mode
2. Select one of the following options from the AutoGEM menu in native mode or from Mesh menu in FEM mode:
Midsurface
—For shell compression only.
Solid / Midsurface
—For mixed models with some areas that are better suited for shells and other areas that are better suited for solids.
3. Click Home > Review Geometry in FEM mode or Refine Model > Review Geometry in native mode to open the Simulation Geometry dialog box.
4. Select Shell Surfaces and Original Geometry on the Simulation Geometry dialog box to review shell compression. For mixed models, also select Solid Surfaces.
Select Unpaired Surfaces to view unpaired surfaces in the model.
Select Unopposed Surfaces to identify unopposed surfaces in your model.
5. Click Apply to review the shell elements placed at midsurfaces.
6. Examine your model to determine whether there are any errors in your pairing scheme.
7. Pay special attention to gaps in the midsurface, paired areas where Creo Simulate did not generate a midsurface, and areas where you have selected the wrong surfaces to pair. If there are gaps in your model, see either Gaps in Parts or Gaps in Assemblies.
8. For shell only models (When you select Midsurface on the AutoGEM menu in native mode or Mesh menu in FEM menu) if Creo Simulate encounters unpaired or unopposed surfaces in your pairing scheme, it displays a warning message and an Interactive Diagnostics window with diagnostic messages. Use the interactive diagnostics to identify and correct each problem.
9. Click Close after you have finished reviewing shell compression for your model.
10. Select the shell pair on the Model Tree and right click Edit to correct any pairing or placement problems.
